Re-new
your Kitchen Cabinets
You
can make your kitchen cabinets look better than new. A
coat of alkyd paint will do wonders.
For preparation, remove all the cabinet doors, and take
off the hardware. Gently sand them down with a fine grade
sandpaper to remove grease and dirt build-up. Set them
aside. Repeat the sanding around the frame areas of the
cabinets.
Paint the frames first. Keep in mind it will take at least
8 - 12 hours for the alkyd paint to dry completely. Lay
the cabinet doors flat on a drop cloth or newspaper. Paint
one side at a time. Flat doors can be rolled with a smooth
roller sleeve. After they are dry, replace the hardware
and hinges and re-hang the doors. This is an inexpensive
way to spruce up the kitchen.
If you are changing colors, you may need more than one
coat.
There are alkyd and latex products made specifically for
cabinet refinishing. You may want to choose one of them.
Semi-gloss is the recommended finish for cabinets. |
