Room Preparation Before Painting

When you are prepared to paint a room in your house, you should follow these basic steps:

Remove what items you can including: screens, curtains, outlet plates, switch covers, hardware from windows and baseboards.

Cover what you can´t remove: fixed carpets, large pieces of furniture, etc. Make sure you have enough drop cloths to cover everything.

Repair any imperfections, holes or cracks.

Scrape and sand areas where paint is loose.

Sand the entire surface.

Wipe off all the sanding dust.

Spot prime any areas where you need to use spackle, or where you sanded through to bare drywall.

Now, you are ready to go ahead and paint.

Painting tips & tricks of the day

Paint without removing fixtures
To avoid having to remove fixtures before painting, particularly when the pieces are difficult to get off, nothing works like Vaseline petroleum jelly. Just spread it on the surfaces to be protected before starting to paint and when finished, clean the fixtures with a paper towel or a soft cloth.

Removing paint on glass and windows
It is well known that dried paint can be removed from glass with a razor blade. If the glass objects are textured or uneven, soak them in water and dishwasher liquid for a few hours.
