The
Proper Tools
General tools for painting jobs:
Preparation tools:
Drop
cloths or old sheets for protecting carpeting, floors and
items that cannot be removed from the area.
Masking
tape is a good item to have on hand for problem areas.
Sandpaper, scraper and wire brush.
Spackling compound and putty knife. (For small jobs a
lightweight quick dry spackle is usually sufficient.)
Glazing
compound or wood putty.
Caulk
and caulk gun. (Be sure to purchase a paintable caulk.
Silicone caulk will repel paint).
Application tools:
Brushes
for irregular surfaces, trim and cut in.
Roller
sleeve, cage and pan for large areas and ceilings. Or a
5-gallon bucket setup can be used.
Sprayers are sometimes used for painting some areas, such
as latice or certain types of built-ins.
An
empty paint can or bucket.
A few
clean rags.
A step
ladder may be required depending on the height of the area
you are painting. |
