 Lumpy Paint

One of the best ways to ensure a great paint finish is to make sure that you start out with smooth paint. Here are some easy ways to do just that!

If you're using old paint and you're pretty sure there are going to be lumps, you'll want to strain the paint. One easy way to do this is to stretch part of an old pair of nylon stockings over the top of a container. Secure it with some rubberbands and pour your paint through the stocking. As the paint goes through the nylon the lumps will get caught.

Another easy way to strain your paint is to cut a piece of screen so that it is just a little smaller than your can. Put the screen on top of the paint and slowly push it down with a paint stick. The lumps will be caught in the screen and settle on the bottom.

It is important to stir your paint. To make your stirring more effective, drill holes down the length of your paint stick. This way when you stir some of the paint is forced through the holes and not just around the stick!

You can also take an old beater from an electric mixer and secure it in your drill chuck. Put it in the paint and turn it on.
