Removing
Dried Paint From Carpet
Careful scraping of carpet fibers gets the job done
When removing dried paint from carpet, try using a wire
brush or razor blade to scrape the fibers.
Just do the following:
Try to loosen the the paint by applying WD-40 (spray
lubricant that can break paint down), Goo-Gone, or a
similar paint remover product. Work it into the carpet,
and let sit for 10 to 20 minutes. Don't be afraid to add
more remover to carpet for really "globby" paint.
Remember - since the paint is solidly dried into the
fibers themselves, you're just trying to loosen, or "break
down" the paint as much as you can.
Take a rag, and rub the area well. See if any of the paint
comes up.
For any remaining paint residue, try using a stout
hard-bristle brush to gently scrape away paint. If that
fails, use a razor blade to gently scrape the fibers of
dried paint. You might actually have to cut a few fibers
out of the carpet, as they could be (more accurately)
"beyond repair".
* CAUTION * Please
wear protective leather work gloves when using the razor
blade. (use common sense here people)
Clean affected area with carpet cleaner or freshener.
Even the worst cases I've seen have been successfully
treated this way. No need to patch the carpet, or spend a
lot of money cleaning. |
