How
to Properly Measure Blinds
Regardless of the type of blind you intend to install, in
order to take the proper measurements for your blinds, you
must first decide if the blind will be installed inside or
outside the window frame.
Cleaning horizontal blinds
To clean dust on horizontal blinds, put on cotton gloves and
run your hands over each slat. If the blinds are stained
with grease, etc., wash them in the bathtub and hang them
from the shower curtain rod to let them dry.
New
genre vertical blinds
Instead of changing your blinds to match the color scheme,
try covering them automotive, pre-pasted strips or certain
types of textured wallpaper. Some retailers can offer
made-to-measure pre-pasted strips. The cost will be much
less than replacing the whole blind.
Material covered blinds can be
painted
Most material covered vertical blinds are finished with a
transparent varnish that can receive a thin coat of paint.
To do this, use a paint gun or spread the blinds one-by-one
on a flat surface and paint with a roller.
Washing horizontal blinds
In the spring or fall, take your blinds out on the patio or
porch and wash them with a special, new outdoor Windex
product that can be fixed on the nozzle of a hose. You'll
only need to spray, rinse well and let dry.
Made-to-measure vertical blinds, at home
You can give a second chance to your PVC vertical blinds.
Simply choose the right material and glue it with a fibre
strand imbedded glue that's sold in rolled strips at your
local hardware store. Unroll the glued strip and carefully
apply it to both sides of each blind followed by the
carefully cut strips of material. Press the material with an
iron adjusted to the lowest heat setting. The results will
surprise you and nothing will show since the glue should
melt into the fabric. You'll be able to remove any
imperfections at the edges with sharp scissors. |
