Choose your interior paint
The types of paint are numerous and each one has its own characteristics which you can read on the label. It is very important to differentiate these different types of finish and their features.

Painting ceilings along the length
Painting a ceiling can appear to be a difficult chore. To make it easier, paint along the length of the ceiling, spreading the paint uniformly and putting the least amount of pressure on the roller. The result will be an evenly painted surface and your efforts rewarded.

Spill-free paint cans
To reduce paint spills down the side of the can, use a hammer and nail to puncture two or three holes along the lip of the can. After pouring, you can use a brush or a cloth to guide the paint trapped in the lip back into the can where it belongs? And again and again until the job is done.

Varnish your stairs while using them
When covering, painting or varnishing staircases, it is naturally recommended to stay off them. But, if this is impossible? Both up and down! First, apply the product on the risers. Next, apply the product on the odd numbered treads (first, third, etc.). Once the "odds" are dry, do the same on the "even" numbered treads (two, four, etc.).

Roller painting
To paint efficiently with a roller, proceed rectangle by rectangle, one small area at a time. Trace a "W" starting in a corner and fill in the "W's" open areas by tracing an "M". You may have to charge your roller once for each letter. Spread the paint by going back over the surface vertically. The final stroke from top to bottom is always in the same direction, with no pressure on the roller and with the roller bar on the same side, otherwise, reverse the stroke direction.

Masking knots before painting
Knots in finished wood will appear sooner or later after painting. Before painting, seal the knots with a lacquer. It is the only liquid sealant that will efficiently seal in knot resin, without discoloring the finishing paint.

Choosing the right paint texture
Each paint finish has its own properties. The more matte the finish, the more it hides imperfections and uneven reflections, but it's less washable. The glossier the finish, the more washable it is, but also the more sensitive to imperfections and it will mask less efficiently. In order: glossy, semi-gloss, pearl, eggshell, satin, matte. Semi-gloss is best for hall walls and for windows and frames; use matte on ceilings and satin and pearl for the rest. Kitchens, bathrooms and basements have their own antifungal paints.

A brush for each paint type
To apply latex paint, use a brush with synthetic or polyester bristles. It'll last longer and the bristles will stay straight. Natural or synthetic bristles are best for oil-based paints. Superior quality, natural silk bristles are recommended for varnishes.

Getting rid of paint on a carpet
It's possible to get dry paint stains out of a carpet by pouring a few drops of paint thinner or stripper on the stain and thoroughly rubbing the spot with a dry cloth. Follow this with soapy water to prevent potential long and short term damages from the stripper. Test this method first by trying it on a less visible area.

A colored primer for quick jobs
When you're painting a room and will only be able to apply a single finishing coat, it is preferable to color the primer 1/2 the color of the finishing coat. The colored primer coat will be slightly less effective as an adhesive medium, but the result will look better than if one coat of finishing paint is applied over one or two white primer coats. You'll also save time and money.

Fresh paint on clothing
To get rid of fresh paint stains on clothing, remove it by lightly rubbing the stain with pure dishwashing liquid. Once the stain has disappeared, rinse it with water.

Colors true to the objective
To get a better idea when mixing and matching paint colours, cut out various colours from a colour palette and place them on a sheet of white paper. Try different combinations until you find the scheme you like.

Step by step interior decoration
Before choosing colors to paint the various rooms of your house, it is often simpler to first choose the accessories, drapes and furniture with a view to the colors that will adorn your walls and ceilings. You will then be able to create interesting matches and view them with the help of specialized computer programs.

Painting: where to start
It's well known that the first surface to paint is the ceiling, while making sure that the floor is protected. Once the ceiling is finished, apply dark colors first to the walls, followed by the lighter colors. This way, it will then be easier to touch up of any imperfections with the darker colors.
