Installing a carpet
Not only does it give warmth and comfort, carpeting adds to
soundproofing and hides any irregularities in the floor.
Adding new carpeting will totally change the look of any
room.
Cutting a foam rubber sub-carpet
Foam rubber sub-carpet is not easy to cut, particularly when
it is thick. Use an electric carving knife if a plasterboard
knife won't do. The job will be done in a snap.
Laying carpeting on basement concrete
Installing carpet on basement concrete is not recommended,
but if you must, choose a carpet without an attached
underpadding. A separate rubber based underpadding will
resist humidity more effectively and will dry more easily if
flooding occurs.
Rugs
without furniture marks
To get rid of furniture leg marks in your rugs, pass a steam
iron over the mark, but without touching the rug. The steam
will penetrate into the rug and a few passes with the vacuum
cleaner will finish the job.
Burned carpet treatment
To deftly hide cigarette, or other types of burns, on a
carpet, first scrape out the black residue with a small
knife or a scissor blade. If the burn mark still shows, cut
out a square of carpet from around the burn and replace it
with a small piece of rug taken from the corner of a closet,
which won't show. |
