Kitchen countertops
A study by the Appraisal Institute of Canada has shown that
renovating the kitchen is the second most profitable project
after interior painting and decorating. It is estimated that
at least 75% of the money invested in kitchen renovation
projects is recouped when the property is sold.
So whether your aim is to increase the value of your home,
or to update your kitchen, improve its practicality or
increase the work surfaces, there are many proven advantages
to replacing your countertops.
Replacing stratified materials
When replacing the laminate on kitchen counters, don't
remove the old one as you will then have to remove the glue,
a tough job. Instead, glue the new laminate onto the old
using contact glue applied to both surfaces. The results
will be excellent. To finish the edges, a file is often the
best tool to smooth the cuts made with a laminate knife.
Cleaning the carving board
To clean kitchen carving boards, wash with water and then
spread a layer of salt on the surface. Leave the salt for a
few hours then rinse. Remove odors by rubbing with a lemon
wedge and oil the dry board with vegetable oil.
Transformed kitchen cupboards
To transform wood or melamine kitchen cupboards, add crown
moldings above and regular moldings a few inches around the
doors and drawers. Glue and pre-drilled nail holes are
recommended for melamine. Then paint the entire surface with
a special primer, followed by a special paint for kitchens
and bathrooms that contains anti-fungal substances or with
melamine paint. Clean the surfaces thoroughly and sand
lightly for a professional finish, which can also be
obtained by texturing the paint.
Kitchen cupboard cleaning
Cleaning kitchen cupboards is a tough job. To make this long
and painstaking job a little easier, place wax, or
decorative paper on the shelves that can be replaced when
needed. |
